OUR WORK

Prevention & Early Intervention

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) include various forms of abuse, neglect, and family dysfunction. Nearly 2/3 of people have had at least one of these experiences, and ½ of those have had 3 or more. Each additional ACE increases the likelihood of unhealthy behaviors and negative health outcomes.

We are “Building Compassionate Schools” by understanding the impacts of ACEs and training schools to recognize signs of trauma and create an environment where all children can flourish. Our goal is to help children be resilient and thrive no matter their circumstance.

Mental Well-Being

Just as physical health is more than the absence of disease; mental health is more than the absence of mental illness. Numerous studies have shown that we can apply tools to retain our minds to focus on the positive and improve our well-being. We can build greater social connections, improve sleep and immune function, and enhance memory. The tools are simple… and life changing.

We created “The People Project” to bring these tools to individuals, organizations, and communities, and our goal is that communities are flourishing by promoting health through happiness.

Crisis & Treatment

In North Dakota the rate of suicide increased by 57.6% from 1999 to 2016, the largest increase of any state during that time period, and in Minnesota the rate also jumped 40.6%.

As part of the ReThink Mental Health Initiative, organizations across the community have adopted a common screening tool for suicide risk. Our goal is to prevent suicides by identify those at risk and then connecting them with timely and appropriate care.

Recovery Support

1 in 5 Americans lives with a mental illness. We also know people with mental and/or substance use disorders can recover and/or manage their conditions successfully.

We host a quarterly “Recovery Roundup” where individuals and organizations interested in recovery services can network and share knowledge of existing resources. Our goal is to work as a community to promote partnerships and networks that support a life in recovery.
